How do you launch a creator challenge that drives app installs?
A creator challenge drives app installs when entering requires using the product, a creator the audience already follows fronts it, a kit and prizes keep entries shipping through the window, and an always-on bench posts underneath. Shortlist's #ALLIN Challenge for Linkme (August 19 to September 16, 2026, with Ashton Hall and prizes up to $26,000) launched Post to All and coincided with Linkme passing Linktree on the App Store charts.

A creator challenge drives app installs when four things are true: the entry path requires using the product, a creator the audience already follows opens the story, a kit and prize structure keep entries shipping for the whole window, and a weekly creator bench keeps posting underneath so the chart does not fall the day after launch. Views on a hashtag are not the goal; downloads from people who just used the feature are. Shortlist's #ALLIN Challenge for Linkme in 2026 is the worked example.
The sequence
- Name the feature the challenge is supposed to teach. For Linkme it was Post to All, the multi-platform publishing feature.
- Write a prompt creators can answer from their own life, not a slogan. #ALLIN asked what they risked to go all-in on a dream.
- Attach a face the ICP already believes. Ashton Hall.
- Make the feature the way you enter. Entries were published with Post to All, so using the product was not optional.
- Ship a kit: brief, examples, rights, submission path, launch film.
- Keep the weekly program running underneath so there is content on day twelve.
- Put paid behind the entries that convert while they are still climbing.

Shortlist does not publish a challenge view total. The numbers it stands behind are the listing lift, the chart milestone, and the always-on program's rates.
Build a mechanic, not only a prompt
"Post with our hashtag" is a hope. "Post with our hashtag using the feature we are trying to teach" is a launch. The story has to be specific enough that a creator can make a real piece of content, and the product has to sit in the critical path of entering.
Do not launch a challenge into a vacuum
#ALLIN sat on top of an always-on bench already talking to other creators every week. That bench is how there was still content after the launch clip had been watched, and how the team had talking-head UGC ready to turn into ads; paid cost per install on Linkme reached $1.07.
If you skip the bench, the challenge is a weekend. If you skip the kit, creators guess. If you skip draft standards, you get entries you cannot feature. If you skip a workspace, you find out what happened in a recap. Shortlist tracked the program in Roar so the brand could see posts land and get an alert when one started to move.
Choosing an agency for a feature-launch challenge
Ask to see a feature that had to be used to enter a past campaign, who produced the kit, what the listing did in installs over the window, and what the agency was still posting the week after. The agency-side comparison is at which agencies launch product features with creator challenges.
If you are planning that kind of launch, contact Shortlist. The #ALLIN launch is written up in the Linkme case study.
Frequently asked
- How much should a creator challenge offer in prizes?
- Enough to justify a real piece of content from a working creator. #ALLIN offered up to $26,000, including two $10,000 grand prizes. The mechanic and the face matter more than the total.
- Do hashtag challenges still work for app installs?
- Only when the entry requires the product. A hashtag alone produces views; a hashtag plus a product mechanic produces downloads from people who used the feature.
- How long should a creator challenge run?
- Long enough for entries to compound and short enough to stay urgent. #ALLIN ran from August 19 to September 16, 2026, with the always-on bench continuing after.
